OUR MISSION & VISION

reaching, raising and releasing disciples

For the glory of the King and the coming of His Kingdom

Jesus reached the disciples before they became disciples. And we are called to do the same - to share about Jesus, to demonstrate His love, to invite others to encounter Him for themselves.

REACHING DISCIPLES

We believe the Kingdom of God is meant to expand, not just in numbers, but also in depth. We are called to strengthen our roots and grow fruit - to see the Kingdom multiplied throughout generations.

RAISING DISCIPLES

Whether it’s into a specific job or location, our continued growth as disciples requires a releasing into what God has planned for us. For some that’s looks like going, and for others that means staying.

RELEASING DISCIPLES

FOR THE GLORY OF THE KING

Everything we do is to glorify Jesus - for our actions to point back to our King so that others know him and we continue to know more of Him.

AND THE COMING OF
HIS KINGDOM

We are meant to embody the Kingdom of God, individually and collectively, in all that we do.
Jesus did what he heard and saw the Father doing - we seek to do the same.

Our story

In 2013, Chris and Jessica Moerman began to sense that God might be inviting them into something new. They had built a life they loved in Atlanta, Georgia, where Chris served as Associate Pastor at Grace Midtown Church and Jessica was completing her doctoral studies. But through prayer, wise counsel, and discernment, they began to believe God was calling them to move to Washington, DC to plant a church.

In the summer of 2015, they moved to DC with their five-month-old son and a small team of about 20 people to begin what would become Grace Capital City. The first gathering happened in August 2015 in their living room, where eleven people gathered for coffee and pancakes. From those small beginnings, a community formed, a vision grew, and Grace Capital City officially launched in September 2016 at Church of the Pilgrims near Dupont Circle.

In the years following the launch in 2016, Grace Capital City continued to grow as a community rooted in worship, discipleship, and life together in the heart of Washington, DC. What began in a living room slowly grew into a church family made up of students, young professionals, families, and people from many different backgrounds and nations who called DC home.

Over the years, Grace Capital City has gathered in different spaces across the city, walked through seasons of growth and challenge, celebrated baptisms, weddings, and new life, and mourned losses together. Through every season, the heart of the church has remained the same: to be a community that seeks to reach, raise and release disciples for the glory of the King and the coming of His Kingdom.

As of April 2026, Grace Capital City now gathers each week at Miracle Theatre in the Barracks Row district. More than a place or a program, Grace Capital City is a people reaching, raising, and releasing disciples of Jesus in Washington, DC and beyond.
